Our next major project on the site is going to be streamlining and improving the upload process.

We really need your feedback on this one – its all about improving our service to make it as user friendly and as effective as possible for our sellers.

Are there any particular areas of the upload process you find confusing or feel need improvement? This is the place to register your thoughts or ideas.

Hi Mike

I like the device matching feature but I cant use it myself because of the differences between implementations of the Java virtual machine between manufactures.
Which means that a java game might work on all devices with a screen size of say 240*320 from Nokia and Sony Ericsson, but the same build might not work on other manufactures phones with the same screen size.
It would be good if you had a set of check boxes with Nokia, Sony Ericsson ect next to them, which you could tick depending on which ones that specific build supports.

Another idea would be to have tick boxes for required JSR’s such as Bluetooth support jsr82, multimedia jsr135 ect

Finally a preview of matched devices so developers can give them the once over and remove any problem handsets

Also recently I’ve made a few minor tweaks to my games and Ive been unable to upload the new versions, I had to first delete the old version and upload again from scratch, reselecting the supported phones ect which can be a bit of a chore when you have a lot of versions.

Thanks
Gareth

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for the suggestions - we're still working on ideas for streamlining the upload process (especially for games), so these comments are extremely valuable. I've added these to my list of suggested improvements.

Sorry about the hassle with uploading those new versions - this is one area we definitely need to simplify. One option that has been suggested to us a few times is allowing the seller to upload a csv or text file containing all the compatible devices for a particular version. Another possible feature would be to allow you to save your compatibility list, either on the site or export to a csv file, so you can reuse it for future content versions. Do you think either of these ideas would be useful in your case?

I like your idea about having a separate tick box for different phone makes. Do you mean that by ticking say Nokia, that all Nokia devices will be ticked, and you can then remove any you don't want to be compatible?

I also like the idea that if you opt to use device matching it could create a list of all devices that will match and you could remove or add devices as you see fit. I'll have to see if this one is possible, but I can definitely see the benefits.

Thanks again for your great suggestions - these have all been taken on board.

Hi Mike

To give you an example say if I wanted to upload a midp 2.0 game, first I would select midp 2.0 in the first pull down menu.
Below that there would be a collection of tick boxes with required JSR’s so if my game needed JSR 135 media API I would tick that box and say it needed Bluetooth support I would tick the JSR 82 box as well

Next there would be the pull down menu to select the screen size, in this example I would select 240 320

Finally there would be another set of tick boxes with the manufactures’ names next to them so in this example I would select Sony Ericsson.

All I would then have to do is click a “generate handset list “ button and all the phones which matched those requirements ie all midp 2.0 Sony Ericsson handsets with Jsr 135 and jsr 82 support with a screen size of 240
320, would appear in a scroll box at the bottom of the screen.

The developer could then select handsets from the list which weren’t compatible and elect to delete them
For example the Sony Ericsson W950 has no direction pad, which the game needs so I would delete that handset from the list.

Once all that was done all the developer would have to do is click save.

I think this would save a lot of time and also prevent mistakes such as accidentally selecting handset with the wrong screen size ect at the moment I have to go through my selections several times to make sure I haven’t made any mistakes.

Thanks again Mike

Gareth

Ah I see - yep thats a great idea.

Basically the system automatically creates a list of all the compatible devices which can then be narrowed further by device make, Bluetooth support etc, and any unwanted devices removed at will. Would also be really useful if the compatibility list could then be saved - that would solve the problem of having to do it all over again if you added new versions.

I've added this to my list :-)

Nice one thanks Mike

Just one more little idea, I thought of, it might be useful if you had a "check for new handsets" button which would showed you any new handsets added to the database which matched your original criteria, the developer could then opt to add some or all of these to their device list, which would be handy for keeping the device list up to date.

Another good idea. We could do this for new countries added as well, as you have to manually add any new countries to your copyright list when we add them to the site.

It would be great if you could save a "country set" in the upload process, so that if you have some content that is only available to a certain number of regions, then you could just save these regions to a set instead of having to go through and individually seelct them for every asset you upload. Makes life easier when you are looking to upload large catalogues of content.

Yup, really good idea. We'll try and incorporate the same code on this page that we use to save the devices lists re: Quick2play's idea above.

Hi Quick2play,

Just letting you know that we've added "New Networks and Phones Added to voeveo" to the seller toolkit as per your suggestion. this will be updated regularly and can be found here at the bottom of the page (once you're signed in).

Also just thought I'd let you know that we're almost finished implementing the savable device lists and an auto detect list that creates an editable compatability list based on our device matching. so thanks again for your useful suggestions - keep 'em coming!
