We the Basement Artists are made up of Dawid, Duston and myself Donovin. We are three cousins with a passion for art and illustration.



Where are you from and why do you live there?
We all live in a town called Bloemfontein, South Africa. Two of us grew up in Bloemfontein and we are settled here because of our family and friends. Bloemfontein is big enough to satisfy all our needs, yet small enough not to get lost in the chaos of the rat race.

Apart from uploading content on voeveo, what else do you do?
We also do freelance illustration, murals and portraits and are also planning to start our own online comic strip.

What inspires your work?
We get our inspiration mainly from the people around us. Our positive outlook on life and the experiences we share with the different kinds of people in our daily lives, provides us with all the inspiration we need. Individually we also get inspired in different ways.
Donovin who specializes in Manga and Anime, was originally inspired by a show he saw as a kid, named Neon Genesis Evangelion. This show spawned a passion for his Anime career and has made him fall in love with these styles.
Dawid's inspiration comes from many different art styles, such as: Comics, fantasy illustrations and sometimes even graffiti, basically anything that provokes intense feelings. He also believes that the best form of inspiration comes from when artists inspire themselves.

What kind of mobile phone do you have and why do you like it?
Donovin: Samsung E250. I like it because I can customise it to suit my personality!
Dawid: Nokia 6111, I like it because it has a lot of memory and it is very functional.
Duston: Had a Nokia 2760 and he liked it a lot before it got thrown in with the washing:)

When you're not in the office what are you doing?
When we are not busy working, we enjoy going out with friends and just enjoying life. We also spend time surfing the net, playing online games, listening to music, watching movies and taking long walks in the park... just relaxing.

What's at the top of your playlist right now?
Donovin: Himitsu Kichi from the Eureka Seven Series
Dawid: Where is my mind by the Pixies
Duston: Vrydag aand, by Snotkop. (It's a local South African band)

Who are some of your favourite Sellers on voeveo?
Hypnoteis is one of the sellers we recently checked out and like. But we don't particularly have any favourites.

Any great Internet site finds to share with our visitors?

At the moment we are moving the office out of the house and everything is a mess, sorry.

That bug should be fixed and your Online/ Offline status should update accordingly now. It checks every 5 minutes or so, so it may not change the second you log in.

» Latest post: 05 Aug 08 (by MikeP (NZ)), New casual daily data plans for Vodafone NZ Users - Vodafone New Zealand has recently introduced much more reasonable mobile data rate for casual users. Now if you use data on their network you will be charged only $1 per 10MB of data that you download, as opposed to the 1c per kilobyte ($102.40 per 10MB!) that you were charged in the past.

Definitely a step in the right direction - but still a fair way to go till we have unlimited data on our mobiles here in NZ.
